Best Architecture

I believe that this is my best Architecture Picture. It shows the true beauty of the building while not having anything disrupt it.

ISO: 400
Aperture Settings: f/10
Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec

Architecture

Assignment Description: For this assignment we were supposed to show the "Architectural features of buildings and structures."

Photo Descriptions: For this assignment I went down to Ann Arbor. My dad works on the campus. So, while he was working I took some pictures of the beautiful buildings down there. The ones that I liked the best were of a pretty old looking gray building. I think the building is just beautiful!

What I Learned: For this assignment I learned to really appreciate how beautiful some of the buildings that surround us are.

Visual Puns

For this assignment we were told to think of a word or phrase that we could represent in a couple pictures. I chose "It's raining cats and dogs!", "headphones", and "Taco Bell."

Visual Dictionary

For this assignment we were told to use GIMP to create an image using multiple other images that defined a word. I chose "girly."

Best Shadows Picture

 Paris and Devin

I think that this is my best shadow picture. You can clearly see the outline of their shadows on the floor next to them. Plus their entire bodies are visible so you can see what is casting the shadows.

Shadows

Assignment Description: This week I chose to do the shadow assignment. We were told to take "Photographs that play on the contrast between shadows and light." I got two of my friends to stand in the stairwells in the school and therefore create shadows with the light coming in from the windows.

Photo Descriptions: Each one of these pictures is a picture of two of my friends standing in the school stairwells. They are just standing in different poses.

What I Learned: During this assignment I learned that shadows are a great way to express artistic skills.

School Context Project

Gimp Project Dance Studio

For this project we were supposed to take a normal picture and turn it into something outrageous for it's contexts. The context was required to be the school. I turned a normal school hallway into a dance studio. There is a mirror, a place to dance, and a little sitting area. I think it looks a lot like my studio actually.

Best Portrait

Jacqui
I feel that this picture is my best portrait. It shows Jacqui smiling and in a good mood. I think that she looks great here.
ISO: 800
Aperture Settings: f/2
Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec

Portrait

Assignment Description: For this assignment I chose to do a portrait picture. The sheet we got told  us "This is a portrait of a person. Using the light that the subject is in show the personality of the subject in this photo. Fill the frame." The girl I took pictures of is my friend Jacqui. She is a very fun-loving person. I feel that these pictures show her positive personality. I put them in black and white just because I thought they looked better that way. Jacqui decided that she wanted to take pictures in a bunch of different outfits.

Photo Descriptions:
-The first picture is of Jacqui in her living room.
-For the second one she is sitting in a chair in her bedroom.
-The third picture is of Jacqui sitting in front of their storage area outside.
-This picture is of Jacqui in her backyard just being goofy.
-The fifth picture if a close up of Jacqui in her bedroom again.
-The sixth picture is also of Jacqui being goofy in her bedroom again.

What I Learned: During this assignment I learned that you can really create a certain mood in a picture just by the actions of your subject.

Best Macro

Eiffel Tower Replica

This is a picture of the Eiffel Tower replica that I have on a shelf in my room. This picture is my favorite because of the perspective that it is from.
ISO: 800
Aperture Settings: f/2

Gimp Assignment #3

Portrait Demos

For this assignment we were told to take two photos with different lighting situations. One was to be a picture using window lighting and a reflector that would shine the window light back on to the subjects other side. The other picture was to be in a studio with 3-Point-Lighting Setup. We were supposed to have a key light, a fill light, a hair light, and a backdrop.

Best Black and White Picture

Black and White Frozen Diet Dr. Pepper

I feel that this is my best black and white picture. I got really close up to the ice crystals. I think it looks really awesome! It is kinda cool how you probably couldn't guess what this was if you didn't already know.
ISO: 320
Aperture Settings: f/2
Shutter Speed: 1/30 sec

Black and White

Assignment Description:
For this category we had a lot of freedom. We could take a picture of basically anything. Then we were to turn it to black and white.  Some pictures look better this weay.

Picture Descriptions:
For my black and white pictures I took a picture of one of the Diet Dr. Peppers that froze and exploded outside. It was way too cold for them to be out there! I just saw it and thought that it would make a really cool set of pictures. I can't quite put a description of each one because they are all just a picture of the Dr. Pepper on my kitchen counter.

What I learned:
During this assignment I learned that I don't quite have to plan for a picture to happen. I was just doing my other homework when I saw it and decided that was my subject. I have developed a creative eye.

Best Still Life/Product Picture

Ravens Wood Wine

This is a picture of Raven's Wood Wine. It is sitting on one of our wood tables. I have placed a wine class and wine bottle opener with it. I feel that this gives the picture a more interesting quality. I have made sure that the picture is more focused on the wine and less on the other objects.
 ISO: 640
Aperture Settings: f/2
Shutter Speed: 1/60

Still Life/Product

Assignment Description: For this assignment we were supposed to take at least 50 pictures that were still life or showed a product well. We were told to take "A photo of a subject that (we) have arranged, much like an advertising type picture. Ofter shot in a studio setting using studio lighting techniques." I think that my pictures show each product in their best light.

Photo Descriptions:
-Ravens Wood wine on our wood table with a wine opener and glass
-Ravens Wood wine on our wood table with a wine opener and two wine glasses
-A different perspective on the last picture
-Our crystal bowl on another one of our wood tables
-Another picture of our crystal bowl on one of our wood tables
-My mom's MacBook Air

What I Learned: From this assignment I learned that editing a picture can make into a much better and completely different picture.

Gimp Assignment #2

Assignment Description: This was our second Gimp assignment. For this assignment we were supposed to work on a photo taken by a former student. It was a nice picture, but there was more that could be done to make it better. So we were to use Gimp editing tools to improve it.

Photo Description: This is a picture of a car at the Ann Arbor Auto Show.

What I learned: I learned about some cool editing tools that are part of Gimp. For instance I had no idea that you could get rid of the distracting background in a picture! I think that is really great!

Best Picture of Razzle

Razzle-de-Dazzle

This is a picture of my dog Razzle with one of her favorite toys. She is sitting on her favorite bench in our living room. She will sit here on a daily basis. Especially during the summer, she loves it here because of she is in the center of everything. She can see us walking around in the house as well as keeping an eye on any squirels, dogs, deer, etc. that are wandering around outside.
ISO: 250
Aperture Settings: f/2.8

Razzle

Assignment Description:
For this assignment we were told to take at least 50 pictures of an animal. We were supposed to "Capture the activity or nature of the animal." I feel that these pictures really show the sweet, fun, and loving personality of my dog Razzle.

Photo Descritions:
-Razzle with one of her favorite toys on her favorite bench in our living room.
-Razzle loves playing!
-Razzle sitting on our living room floor.
-Razzle in our kitchen.
-Razzle is known to jump up on people and stand on her back legs.
-The blanket that Razzle is laying on in this picture was a Christmas present to her and our other animals from our pet sitter.
-There are points of the day where she will calm down and take a little nap.
-Razzle being cute

What I learned:
From this assignment I learned that we have the ability to create some really interesting pictures with only one subject. My dog also seemed to be very photogenic. I feel like that tends to help when you have something/someone nice to work with.

Gimp Assignment #1

These shots are great examples of animal shots. I feel that each one of them represents the animals in their environment really well. I hope to be able to take pictures that are this great. Since I have dogs and cats, mine hopefully will be very similar to these.
